The Pulmunen (Snow Bunting) throw blanket, designed by Marjatta Metsovaara, belongs to her acclaimed bird-inspired series and carries specific artistic and technical intentions.

With the dedsign throw, Metsovaara sought to express nature in motion, capturing the visual rhythm of the bird's appearance against the snowy Nordic landscape.

To achieve a blossoming of colors, Metsovaara sought to challenge the standard ratios of the time, which typically favored wool over mohair, to create a unique texture that was both durable and high-performing for modern interiors. We further improved the material by incorporating a majority of mohair, creating a carded felt surface that reflects light differently than traditional blankets. This allows the colors to blossom or glow.

Today, Metsovaara seeks to produce this fine fabric on slow-speed power looms with a distinctly hand-crafted appeal. At newly built state-of-the-art combing and spinning facilities, these natural fibers are transformed into unique variations of yarns.
