Marjatta Metsovaara’s deep roots in carpet manufacturing began in her childhood, shaping her intuitive and innovative approach to design. Growing up around hand-woven, patternless pile carpets crafted at the Urjalankylä mill, she developed a unique vision that combined tradition with modernity. One of her iconic creations from the late 1950s, the Nukka (Pile) carpet, became an instant classic. Sold by the meter, Nukka captivated with its rugged, textured surface and rich, harmonious colors that felt both personal and timeless. Perfectly complementing other Metsovaara textiles, this design remains a testament to her artistic legacy.

Today, using the production techniques that honor Metsovaara's original craftsmanship, the Nukka rug stands as a benchmark in Nordic modern home design—bringing enduring style and authentic heritage into contemporary interiors.
