Marjatta Metsovaara designed Rusko (sunset) in 1957, and this travel rug design was shown at the first solo exhibition of Metsovaara, organized by Artek, the same year. These blankets were hand-woven at the weaving mill in Urjala, Finland. Rusko reflects the hues and shades of the Finnish countryside. It is one of the best designs, showing the sun's setting in warm red colors. During the 1950s and 1960s, throw blankets in the same material were offered in the finest department stores worldwide and were one of the best export items of Metsovaara to the U.S.

Today, Metsovaara seeks to produce this fine fabric on slow-speed power looms with a distinctly hand-crafted appeal. This beautiful mohair and wool throw, featuring the signature Metsovaara fringes at the ends, will keep you warm this winter. At newly built state-of-the-art combing and spinning facilities, these natural fibers are transformed into unique variations of yarns. Woven in the original Rusko pattern, the fabric is brushed to create a classic, fluffy form. All this means that a travel rug from Metsovaara not only adorns any room but also provides high comfort and a genuine sense of craftsmanship and heritage.

With today’s improved production methods, the material is more reliable and resistant to washing.

Fluff up the travel rug after use. Brush it lightly against the pile from time to time. Dry cleaning is recommended. Hand wash or machine wash with natural detergent, with no spinning at washing and drying and no hanging at drying.
