Mohair is the epitome of luxury, and this beautiful design of Marjatta Metsovaara from the 1950s is a statement.

Polska means Poland in Finnish. The name derives from the Old Slavic word "pole", which means field, plain, or open space. Marjatta Metsovaara often named her designs after places or concepts that evoked a specific mood or heritage. By naming the rug "Polska", she was referencing the rich tradition of Polish folk weaving and textiles, which are famous for their bold, geometric patterns and warm, earthy color palettes. The grid-like, repeating pattern of the rug mimics the organized, partitioned look of agricultural fields or traditional woven folk art, bringing the gap between Finnish modernism and Slavic heritage.

The original 135 × 180 cm size was designed as a travel rug, woven from 40% mohair and 60% wool, and was already being sold in the finest U.S. department stores in the 1950s.

The new intent is a 140x240cm throw blanket with 72%mohair and 28% wool:
Furniture has grown significantly since the 1950s. At 240cm, the blanket can properly drape across a 3-seater sofa or serve as a luxurious "bed runner" that covers the full width of a large bed. The extra 60cm length ensures that an individual can be fully covered from neck to lower legs, addressing a common critique of vintage "travel" rugs.

By increasing the mohair-to-wool ratio to a maximum, you create a blanket that is significantly warmer yet feels lighter on the body than the original 1950s version. A larger surface area of 140x240cm benefits from this strength, ensuring this blanket maintains its shape and "loft" over time despite its increased size.
